Child Support Guidelines
In either case, child support payments are determined by a formula based on the net monthly income of the noncustodial parent and other factors. Net income is the money that is left after taxes and medical insurance are deducted.
The standard child support payment is:
- 20 percent for one child
- 25 percent for two children
- 30 percent for three children
- 35 percent for four children
- 40 percent for five children
- Not less than 40 percent for six children
Child support may be set at higher than this amount if the court believes you have the potential to earn more money than you do.
Deviations From the Guidelines
Factors that may allow for a deviation from the child support formula include payment of private school tuition, day care expenses or for a child's special medical needs. Child support may also be reduced if parents share physical custody of the child.

Modification and Enforcement
