Dealing With Child Protective Services
Child Protective Services (CPS) is a division of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The organization investigates reports of child abuse and neglect and, when necessary, places children in foster care and, eventually, adoptive homes. It also provides services to families whose children have been removed from the home in an attempt to reunite the family.
If Child Protective Services has entered your family's life, it is extremely important to speak to an attorney who has experience working with CPS and knows how to protect your parental rights.
Call Us If You Are Being Investigated by CPS
Our attorney, Lauren Cain, has extensive experience representing clients whose families have been investigated by and whose children have been taken away by Child Protective Services. She also helps grandparents and other interested family members obtain custody or adopt children after removal.
Once you are in their system, Child Protective Services has a great deal of power over the lives of children and families. They are an arm of the government, and must be treated with respect. Lawyers who do not understand that do a grave disservice to their clients.
We have earned the respect of CPS attorneys and have understood their processes. Our attorney knows how to analyze your situation and work toward the best possible resolution of the problem through negotiation, mediation or litigation.
Your Best Chance to Regain Custody
If a child has been removed from a home, there will be a hearing 14 days after the removal. This is a parent's single best chance to get their child back immediately. It is essential to have legal representation at this hearing.
If you are denied the immediate return of your child, Child Protective Services will prepare a safety plan, detailing the steps that you and other family members need to take in order to regain custody, such as taking parenting classes.
